When your pet isn’t feeling well, a fast diagnosis is vital. VCVC features a state-of-the-art diagnostic suite. Most bloodwork can be done instantaneously on site. Our digital radiographic capabilities allow us to provide quality images fast, typically without the need for sedation. Dr. Elder is also a member of the Veterinary Information Network. This gives VCVC access to consultation with leading veterinary specialists on short notice.
We partner with IDEXX diagnostics to offer both in house and reference laboratory options. We have state of the art machines allowing us to evaluate blood samples, urine samples and skin cell samples to more effectively monitor your pets health and detect and diagnose any serious health issues early. Any labs that cannot be run in house are sent out and rushed at no extra cost to you to provide detailed results within days. We also offer digital x-ray, cardiac and ultrasound imaging services that allow us to upload your images immediately to be read by a licensed radiologist within 24 hours.
Do all pets need the same diagnostic tests?
No - testing is tailored to your pet's age, symptoms, breed, and health history. A young, healthy pet in for a wellness visit may just need basic bloodwork, while a pet with symptoms might need a more targeted combination of tests.
Is diagnostic testing only for sick pets?
Not at all. We also use baseline diagnostics such as bloodwork and intestinal parasite screenings during routine wellness visits, even when your pet seems perfectly healthy. This gives us a normal baseline to compare against later and can catch developing issues early, before symptoms appear.
My pet is about to have anesthesia for a procedure - why do they need bloodwork first?
Pre-anesthetic bloodwork checks how organs like the kidneys and liver are functioning, which affects how safely your pet processes anesthesia. It's a routine safety step that lets us tailor the anesthesia plan to your individual pet.
How long does testing take during my appointment?
Most routine diagnostics take just a few minutes to collect and you get results back within 24-48 hours depending on the complexity of the diagnostic.

We will call you with results but we also provide 24/7 access to your pets full record of diagnostic results on our patient portal that can be accessed through our website
